Development
Conceptual Rendering of Calgary Muslim Cemetery
Why is the Cemetery needed?
By 2047, it is expected that the surrounding area population is estimated to grow to a staggering 3.7 million residents, and the Muslim population will grow to roughly 185,000 members. This represents a 43% growth in population from 2022. Due to the growing population, it is anticipated that the community will require another cemetery.
The Riyadhul Jannah Cemetery is estimated to be able to serve and sustain the local community for the next several hundred years, by providing important interfaith burial services.
What is being planned?
Current development plans include several burial areas, a fountain area, parking lot, several buildings, and a memorial forest. These areas are currently being proposed and are subject to change in accordance with development approval and local land use bylaw/restrictions. Buildings will aim to include seating areas, bathing stations, prayer rooms, and areas for funeral service. Through donation funds, the cemetery will also aim to provide financial support for families that are unable to afford funeral and burial services.
As part of the 98 acres of space, roughly 63 acres will be used for development of the Cemetery, and 34 acres will remain agricultural use.

Where are we at?
Thanks to generous donations from the local community, 63 acres of land, east of Calgary, have been acquired by the Fellowship for the development of the Cemetery. The parcel of land is located 12 minutes east of the intersection of Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard, NE Calgary. Currently the project is in the planning stage. This includes determining specifics of what can be included as part of development, according to costs and bylaws, and seeking project approval from local governments.
ISL Engineering was hired to provide initial consultation regarding land use , re-zoning and the development of the Master Site Plans. The process is underway with the county and we will post more updates as warranted.
